15 Jul 2008

By TNPihl (JCO Editor-In-Chief)

The movie page for Jim Carrey's early movie "High Strung" (1991) has been added in our Movie Area. Jim has an uncredited cameo appearance as Death at the end of the movie and can be seen five minutes. "High Strung", directed by Roger Nygard, never hit theaters. It premiered at Cinequest (San Jose Film Festival) in October in 1991 and was screened at nine other Festivales the following months.

Synopsis
The grumpy Thane Furrows (Steve Oedekerk), an extremely cynical but unintentionally hilarious children's book writer, wakes up one morning and faces other day of complaining to himself. However, the day proves to be much different than normal when Thane begins to receive strange phone calls, letters, and voices in his head. All indicating that something will happen at 8 o'clock...

High Strung

Steve Oedekerk (In Living Color, Ace Ventura, Bruce Almighty, Ripley's Believe It or Not!) and Roger Nygard submitted the script to many american companies without luck. Luckily for them two Russian businessman read the script and wanted to give them enough money to make it. It was filmed on a low budget ($300,000) on a stage in Los Angeles. Steve delivered eighty percent of dialogues throughout the movie. As a favor to a pal, "In Living Color" writer, Jim did the movie with a cameo appearance. Other cast members are Thomas F. Wilson, Denise Crosby, Fred Willard and a very young Kirsten Dunst.

"High Strung" was released on VHS by Rocket Pictures in 1994 and was reissued in 1996 with Jim Carrey on the cover. Not released on DVD yet, but according to our sources it will be released later this year.
